Nursing License CE Requirements
CE Requirements for Nursing Licenses
Every three years, the Iowa Nursing Board requires nurses to complete the following continuing education contact hours to comply with licensing requirements:
- 36 contact hours for RN license renewal
- 36 contact hours for LPN license renewal
- 36 contact hours for ARNP license renewal
Mandated State Courses
Iowa mandates that ARNPs, RNs and LPNs who regularly examine, attend, counsel or treat dependent adults or children in Iowa are required to complete training related to the identification and reporting of child/dependent adult abuse. The licensee is required to complete the training courses offered by the Iowa Department of Human Services.
License Expiration and Renewal
Registered Nurse Licenses:
Iowa RN licenses expire on the 16th of the nurse's birth month every three years.
Licensed Practical Nurse Licenses:
Iowa LPN licenses expire on the 16th of the nurse's birth month every three years.
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Licenses:
Iowa ARNP licenses expire on the 16th of the nurse's birth month every three years.
