Nurses (LPN, RN, APRN) in almost every U.S. state are required to keep current with medical practices and developments through taking nursing continuing education courses (CEUs). A specific number of contact hours or CEUs are required for license renewal and are specified by the relevant board of nursing.
Some boards or state agencies require course reporting. This can or must be done by either the nurse or the nursing CEU provider electronically and can be required for all or some nursing CE courses.
ANCC Accredited Provider
Wild Iris Medical Education has been providing online nursing CEUs since 1998 and is an ANCC (American Nurse Credentialing Center) accredited provider.
The ANCC accreditation program recognizes the importance of high-quality continuing nursing education (CNE) and skills-based competency programs. Around the world, ANCC accredited organizations provide nurses with the knowledge and skills to help improve care and patient outcomes. Nursing CEUs from an ANCC accredited provider are accepted by all 50 U.S. state nursing boards and every U.S. territory.
All nurses can take any of our nursing CEU courses or convenient nursing continuing education bundles for credit for license renewal.

3. What Counts as CEUs for Nurses?
All of Wild Iris’s nursing CEU courses are accepted by all nursing boards in the entire U.S., including California, Florida, Texas, Michigan, etc.
“CEU” is an abbreviation for “continuing education unit,” which is a measurement for a unit of study generally equal to 10 contact hours for some professions (e.g., occupational therapy). “CEU” is also commonly used as a generic term to refer to continuing education courses.
“CH” is an abbreviation for “contact hour.” “1 CH” indicates that it generally takes 60 minutes (1 hour) to study the course material, successfully pass a test, and complete an evaluation (2 CH = 2 hours, 3 CH = 3 hours, and so on.) In nursing, most CE credit is awarded in CH (contact hours).
4. Are My Course Completions Reported to My State?
For the states of Florida, Georgia, Washington, DC, New Mexico, South Carolina, and West Virginia, Wild Iris Medical Education reports course completions electronically to CE Broker.
For Pennsylvania’s mandated Act 31 Child Abuse courses, we electronically report successful course completions within 24 hours to the PA Department of State for all nurses and other license holders.
